Coffee table books have a long-standing history in the world of home decor. Nestled alongside desk lamps and other light fixtures on the nightstand or piled on the coffee table where they may have gathered a bit of dust, these books, bright and shiny and full of images, have long been used in the home as a decoration or an accessory. They used to belong solely to the world of tacky or staid interior design or sometimes travel photographers. But recently, and thankfully, some of the world's top fashion writers, designers and photographers have ventured into the wonderful world of the coffee table book. The following list of fashionable coffee table books is by no means conclusive, but these are some of these best out there and they offer diverse, arresting looks at the world of haute couture.

The book shown here is one of three limited edition covers. It combines the worlds of art, fashion and architecture into one very, yet stylish, 400-page book. What's really interesting about this fashionable tome is that even though it ran in a very limited edition (only 10,000 copies were printed!), each copy was bound in one of the recent printed fabrics from Pucci's collection. If you can get your hands on a copy, you may be hard-pressed to open the book; you'll be too busy staring at the beautiful cover.

Mariano Fortuny is perhaps most famous for his eponymous lighting fixture, the Fortuny Floor Lamp, but he was also influential in the fashion world. His silk, pleated Delphos Gown was influenced by Grecian art and inspired a new, modern aesthetic ideal in the world of haute couture.

An expansive book -- this tome looks at 30 years of fashion, art and architecture at the House of Miuccia Prada.? In it, you'll find more than 3800 images, from runway looks, to photo shoots, to behind the scenes looks at how some of Prada's handbags are made.

The title says it all. No magazine is more influential, and influenced by the world of haute couture. It features the work of some of the elite Vogue photographers, like Helmut Newton, Ritts, Irving Penns and Annie Leibowitz, as well as some famous writers that have appeared in the magazine. You'll also get a sneak peak into the makings of the magazine, as well as the history of Vogue and how it came to be.
You'll be hard-pressed to cast aside these fashionable tomes alongside a random light fixture to gather dust. Far from it! These books are so fashionable, interesting, and beautiful, that they're bound to be read.
