Rafa by Rafael Nadal and Jon Carlin

August 31, 2011  by Fifi Flowers

Rafa started play in the US Open this week... winning his first match yesterday... along with his NEW book coming out this month...

What makes a champion? What does it take to be the best in the world at your sport?

Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest players in the history of tennis, has the answers. In his memoir, written with award-winning journalist John Carlin, he reveals the secrets of his game and shares the inspiring personal story behind his success. It begins in Mallorca, a small island on the Mediterranean Sea, where the tight-knit Nadal family has lived for generations. Coached by his uncle Toni from the age of four, taught humility and respect by his parents, cherished by his exceptionally close extended family, Nadal has managed the uncommon feat of becoming an acclaimed global celebrity while remaining an unfailingly gracious, relentlessly hardworking role model for people in all walks of life.

Author Interview with Nancy Gent

August 25, 2011  by Fifi Flowers

Designer and co-author of Urban Country Style, Nancy Gent began designing furniture when she was inspired to create a unique bed for her son that made reading very inviting. “We have not had television since Liam turned five,” said Gent. “He was in kindergarten and just starting to read. I wanted to create a space that was cozy, comfortable, and offered great lighting with the bonus of an easy-to-find light switch. I have always had a great passion for clapboard cottages and barns, especially those outfitted with galvanized gooseneck light fixtures. We were vacationing in a quaint cottage beach town when the idea for my flagship piece of furniture struck me.”

Misery Loves Cabernet by Kim Gruenenfelder

August 23, 2011  by Fifi Flowers

The book...

Charlize "Charlie" Edwards finally has it all: a house in Silverlake, L.A.'s hippest neighborhood, two fabulous best friends who always have her back, and a great (though hectic) job as the personal assistant to Hollywood's hottest movie star, Drew Stanton. But best of all, Charlie has a newly feathered love nest with Jordan, the sexy photographer she recently started dating.  Maybe Charlie's journal of smart-alecky life advice--which she's always been better at writing than following--has finally helped put her on the right track.
Unfortunately for Charlie, Drew is causing complete havoc on his new movie set, her eccentric family is descending upon L.A. for the upcoming holiday season, and her love life may be back to square one.  Jordan has left L.A. to work on a film shooting in Paris, where the women are gorgeous, sophisticated, and possibly after her man.  And Drew's handsome new producer, Liam, is an old crush who has reappeared to tug at Charlie's heartstrings. Charlie's torn between the misery of waiting for Jordan and the tingly feelings she has for Liam. But there's nothing misery--or seduction--loves better than a great glass of Cabernet. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

August 11, 2011  by Kris from La Reportiste

Merci beaucoup Fifi for allowing me to write a review on this wonderful book of poetry.

I don't profess to read a lot of poetry but I do have some favorites and The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is one of them. I cannot count the number of times that I have read the chapters in this little book of treasures or the number of people I have purchased this book for because I can think of no other book that explains the many issues of life or the human condition as well as this book does.

It was written by Kahlil Gibran, a Lebanese artist, philosopher and writer and this book is considered his best work.

The prophet, Al Mustafa, who has lived in the foreign city of Orphalese for 12 years is about to board a ship which will carry him home. He is stopped by a group of people, with whom he discusses the many issues of life and the human condition.

There are chapters on love, marriage, children, self-knowledge, giving, friendship, death, and many more. Each chapter is filled with a wealth of knowledge in life lessons. A book, that you can read and contemplate, put down and pick back up again anytime. If there was ever a book that I can wholeheartedly recommend it would be this one. It has remained on my bookshelf since I met my husband, who recommended it after we met 41 years ago.

A GREAT READ!

Have you ever read this book? If so, what did you think of it? Would it be a book that you would recommend? Kindly leave your comments as I would welcome your opinions.

Kris
